Last November, Mohammed Wa Baile won an important partial victory in his protracted battle against racist police checks: The Administrative Court of the Canton of Zurich ruled that a police stop against him was unlawful because simply “averting one’s gaze” did not constitute suspicious behaviour that would justify a stop. However, the court left the question of whether racial profiling was involved unanswered. The Alliance Against Racial Profiling is therefore taking the case to the Federal Supreme Court. This will of course lead to further legal costs, which will be covered by crowdfunding.
